Joan Marie Theresa Zuwala

Born June 10, 1931 Joan was married to Ches (Chester Eugene Zuwala). Joan was pre-deceased by her son Paul (2016), and is survived by her son Peter ( late Joyce), and daughter-in-law, Beth (Paul). Joan was a loving Grandma to Danny (Lauren), Luke (Rachel) Kristy (Colby), and a proud Great Grandma to Arthur, Sylvia, Byram, and Rory and aunt to many.

Joan was predeceased by her parents Alexander and Selina Kenny and her late brothers Don (late Edna), Stu (late Evelyn), Joe (Diane), Bill (late Florence), Doug (late Janet) and David (late Linda) and sisters Colleen O’Conner (late Terry) and Cathy Kenny. She is survived by sisters Margaret Campagnolo (late Para), and Barbara.

Joan was married to Ches and lived in Guelph from 1953 until 1987 then moved to Southampton, then on to Port Elgin. They were active members of St. Patrick’s Church and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

Joan thought often and fondly of her many friends in the “north”. She found her greatest joy in a home bustling with family and friends, where she could cook, entertain, and bring people together with warmth and generosity.

As a young woman, Joan embraced life with energy and enthusiasm, enjoying roller skating, figure skating, and golf. She later took immense pride in her garden, especially her beloved roses, which flourished under her attentive care.

Joan was wonderfully opinionated and never shy about speaking her mind, often with a playful glint in her eye. A natural storyteller, she delighted those around her with tales full of humor and wit, leaving lasting impressions and plenty of laughter.

She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, April 8 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, 252 Dublin St. N. Guelph. A funeral service will take place in the funeral home’s chapel on Thursday, April 9 at 11:00 am, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Lounge. Private Interment.
