Maria Marchesano

May 14, 1945 – June 1, 2025

Maria Marchesano passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington in Guelph, Ontario, on June 1, 2025, surrounded by love. She was 80 years old.

Maria was born on May 14, 1945, in San Giorgio Morgeto, Italy, and immigrated to Canada in 1961. She and her beloved husband Michelino (Mike) Marchesano, who predeceased her in February 2019, built a life rooted in family, hard work, and community. In 1973, they founded Mike’s Quality Meats on Highway 24 South, which became a cherished local business. In the 1990s, Maria expanded that legacy with her daughter Patricia, opening a beloved stand at the Guelph Farmer’s Market, where they were affectionately known as “The Mushroom Ladies.”

Maria was an inveterate gardener whose green thumb was legendary in the Riverside Park neighborhood. Her vibrant and carefully tended flowers brought joy to all who passed by.

She is lovingly remembered by her children Louis, Patricia, and Linda Marchesano, and by her grandchildren Nayana and Chalie. Her warmth, strength, and generosity will be deeply missed by family, friends, and the many members of the community whose lives she touched.

Resting at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St N., Guelph, where the family will receive their friends on Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 4 – 8 p.m.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Dublin Chapel on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 11 a.m. Entombment in Our Lady Immaculate Mausoleum, Marymount Cemetery, Guelph. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Dublin Fellowship Lounge.
