From our care into the hands of God.
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert James Fitton, age 73, residing at Peachtree Group Home, Guelph. He departed peacefully at dawn, March 6, 2024, with his devoted sister Mamie by his side, and in the gentle care of Hospice Wellington, Guelph.
Robert was born in Guelph, on November 29, 1950, to Wilfrid & Mary Fitton. He is predeceased by his beloved father (1995), and is survived by his loving mother and his sisters, Mary Lynn (Mamie) and Becky. Robert’s family will remember him as a dedicated, cherished son and the best big brother anyone could have.
Robert was dearly loved by a supportive extended family and many friends. "Moose Robert" had a profound impact on all those who knew him, and often those he met along the way. He was a gentleman through and through, ever faithful to family and prayer, a seeker of truth, nature and music and a proud member of his community. His favourite times were spent cutting wood on the farm, gardening or working on his weaving and doing math. Robert had a knack for humour and lifting others to smiles and laughter. He had a knick-name, compliment or nugget of charm for everyone.
Robert, (aka Moose), faced the challenges in his life and health, with courage and strength. He inspired us with resilience and spirit through challenging times. His spirit is enduring and he will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. We are blessed that he has touched and graced our lives with many valuable lessons.
The Fitton family expresses their deepest gratitude to all who gave so much of themselves in Robert's care, with tenderness and compassion; at Peachtree Home, Community Living Guelph Wellington, and to the staff at Guelph General Hospital and at Hospice Wellington. Special thanks to Dr. Rao & team, Dr. Mersereau & team, Dr. Bader & team, Dr. Brodovsky and the Palliative Bayshore Nursing team.
A funeral Mass will be held at Basilica of Our Lady, 28 Norfolk St., Guelph at Noon, on Monday, March 18, 2024. Lunch and fellowship will follow there. Private interment will occur at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy, we kindly ask that you consider making a donation to Basilica of Our Lady, Community Living Guelph Wellington, Hospice Wellington, Guelph General Hospital or charity of your choice.
