

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald George Porter on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at the Guelph General Hospital surrounded by the love of his family. Ron was in his 91st year. He is predeceased by his loving wife Sylvia Lorraine Porter (Tapson) (2019), his parents George and Rita Porter and his sister Eileen Gemmell. Cherished father of Brian (Pam) Porter and Karen Carroll (Gary). Beloved grandfather of Krista (David) Collins, Shauna Porter, Kyley (Dillin) Wiwczor and Staci Porter and special great-grandfather of Olivia, Porter, Lennox, Rowyn, Miller, Collin and Dianna. Dear brother of Barbara Breese and Catherine Garrison. Ron will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Ronnie was a second-generation firefighter with the Guelph Fire Department. He began his career with the Guelph Fire Department in 1957 and retired in 1992 after 35 years of dedicated service to his community. Ronnie was also a house painter for many years and recently brightened the walls of his friends and family with his newfound talent of painting canvases.
Ronnie’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Cary Shafir for her compassion and professionalism shown to Ronnie and our family during a difficult time. Thank you also to the nurses on 7 East at the Guelph General Hospital, especially Kendra, for their care. We would also like to thank the wonderful staff, at The Elliott Community Nottingham Unit for their compassionate care and dedication to Ronnie over the last two years. He thought the world of you. A very special thank you to Dr. Monica Austin for her dedication, kindness, exceptional care and friendship shown to Ron over many years.
Arrangements entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin Street North, Guelph. Family invite friends to a visitation on Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 2:00-4:00pm and from 6:00 to 8:00pm and on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 10:00am to 11:00am. Funeral Service will be held at the Dublin Chapel on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11:00am. A reception is to follow in the Fellowship Lounge at the funeral home. Private entombment at Our Lady Immaculate Mausoleum, Marymount Cemetery.
