September 30, 1936 - May 15, 2021
Peacefully with family by his side after a long struggle with multiple conditions. Beloved husband of Sylvia in their 65th year of marriage. Predeceased by son Ken and missed by daughter-in-law Sue of Mattawa. Deeply missed by daughter Lisa of Oshawa and son Jeff of Niagara Falls. Remembered fondly by grandson Mike (Carrie), great grandsons Michael and Mason of Simcoe, nephew Chris (Diana) Blachar of Seagrave and niece Christi (Bob) Wagner of Bracebridge, many great nieces and nephews and relatives in Schreiber.
From humble beginnings working the CPR night shift in Thunder Bay, Ross, Sylvia and kids moved to Toronto in 1966 and he eventually landed a position with Maple Leaf Sports Productions. He rose quickly to become the managing editor of the Leafs programs and later the Buffalo Sabres as well. Ross worked in major sports and event promotions, honing skills in writing, editing and photography. A gifted storyteller, he authored seven books, including bestsellers Last Minute of Play and Clear the Track. For over 25 years he wrote weekly sports columns in several Ontario newspapers. Despite all his contact with famous people, Ross never lost the common touch or his ease and humour with everyone.
Thanks to the great team at Wellington Terrace for their competent and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Alzheimer’s Society or Wellington Terrace in Fergus. A celebration to remember Ross will be held at a later date.
