With deep sadness and love, we share the passing of a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Shirley Ann Zoethout, who left this world peacefully on October 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Shirley was the heart and soul of her family, a woman whose love knew no bounds and whose compassion touched everyone she met. She taught those around her to love deeply and lead with kindness, to offer understanding instead of judgment, and to meet each day with courage and grace. Her warmth filled every room, her smile lifted every spirit, and her quiet strength inspired those who knew her best.
She will be forever loved and remembered by her soulmate and devoted husband, Terry (Tjeerd), her children, Alisha and Chad (Victoria), and her treasured grandchildren, Ryker and Hannah. They were her greatest joy and the light of her life.
She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Rosemary Smith (Bennett), with whom she shared a lifelong bond built on love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, William Bennett and Helen Bennett (Wagner), and her brother, Kenneth Bennett.
Shirley took immense pride in her family, found joy in their laughter, and created countless memories that will live on in their hearts forever. Beyond her family, she touched the lives of so many others. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel seen, valued, and loved. Her home was always open, her heart always generous, and her spirit a source of comfort and light to those who needed it most.
In her final weeks, Shirley faced her illness with incredible bravery, grace, and resilience, a reflection of the strength that defined her throughout her life. Though her passing feels unimaginable, her spirit continues to live on through the love she shared, the lessons she taught, and the kindness she inspired in everyone who knew her.
Her love was her greatest gift, and she gave it freely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love and gratitude.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home – Dublin Chapel (252 Dublin St. N. Guelph) on Thursday, October 23 from 3 – 6 pm. Cremation has taken place. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
