

Stuart Edward Dixon October 11, 1922 - February 2, 2012 Our truly loving husband, brother, father and grandfather passed away at the Guelph General Hospital after a full and happy life. He will be dearly missed. Stuart leaves behind his devoted wife Dorothy (Hynes), known fondly as Sherry, and sister Beatrice Millar (Dixon). His children Stuart, Christine (Rainer) and Laurel (Jeremy) knew the depths of their father's love. Grandchildren Kevin, Eric and Benjamin will always cherish his guidance, love and inspiration. Stuart graduated from McMaster University and went on to get an MSc. from the University of Toronto and a PhD (Entomology) from Cornell University. He was a professor at the University of Guelph for 35 years. A founding member of the Unitarian Congregation of Guelph, he was a chaplain there for 24 years. As a scientist, his contributions have been many; as a citizen he had a deep concern for social justice; as an artist he had broad, creative talents (painting, crafts and puppetry). He loved life. A memorial service to celebrate Stuart's life will be held Saturday February 11th, at 2 p.m., at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, with a reception to follow. Cremation has taken place, with an inurnment at Woodlawn Memorial Park at a later date. Stuart and family appreciated the care and attention he received during his brief stay at the Guelph General Hospital. In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Stuart's wishes, donations may be made to the Unitarian Service Committee (USC Canada) or the Unitarian Congregation of Guelph.
