On May 22, 2010, Walter Allen Matthews passed away peacefully. Born in Nova Scotia on August 3rd, 1943, Walter grew up on his family's farm in Stewiacke with his twelve brothers and sisters. Over the years Walter shared his engineering expertise with McGuiness Distilleries, Irving Oil and as a consultant in the food packaging industry. Farmer at heart, Walter was a past President of the Ontario Equestrian Federation, ran a farm while working full-time, and later in life created the most impressive garden in the Niagara Escarpment. He could sure grow a tasty tomato! A tractor enthusiast, Walter was the chief mechanic and Mr. Fix-it of the 5th line in Rockwood, Ontario where he and his wife Denise spent the last 10 years. Always a bon vivant, Walter enjoyed 10% cream on his cereal and 10lb Lobsters. He sure knew how to live. Loving father, grandfather, brother, husband and friend, Walter was deeply loved by all who knew him. He made us smile and filled our hearts. He will live on in us forever. In his memory donations can be made to the Cancer Society. A celebration of his life will be held at his home in Walden Park on Saturday July 24th, 2010.
