

Agatha Cox Strickland, 84, from Zion, IL passed away December 26, 2016. She was born in Chandler, OK on February 26, 1932 to Herbert Cox and Olga Soderstrom Cox. She married James D. Strickland November 7, 1952 in Chandler, OK . She is survived by her brother Brenton Cox (Chandler, OK); sister, Louvella Cox Ficke (Wadsworth,IL) and her 6 children: Debra Strickland Kolb (William) of Zion; Bert Strickland of Kingfisher, OK; Dale Strickland (Danette) of Kenosha,WI; Robert Strickland (Patricia) of Zion; Jeannette Strickland Hughes (Brian) of Haslett, MI; and Lauri Strickland Pickos of Zion, IL. She adored and loved 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Dale Strickland, her parents, her in-laws, her sister Treva, her brothers Lawrence and Loren and her grandchildren, Andrea Leigh and Ian Patrick Hughes. Agatha loved sewing, quilting, crocheting, canning, cooking and caring for her family. She loved to draw and write. Teaching the 4 & 5 year old class at Zion Second Baptist Church for many years was one of her great joys. She also enjoyed shopping and going to lunch with her sister and dear friends. She graduated from Chandler High School in Chandler Oklahoma in 1950. She went to journalism school in Stillwater, OK and worked for Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. While raising her family she cared for many neighborhood children and loved working with the school PTA. A wake for the bereaved will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Friday December 30, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 3001 9th Street, Winthrop Harbor, IL. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 10 am at the church. Flowers and donations may be sent to the church as well.
