Alex Davenport

Alex was born on December 8, 1929 in Buncomb, Illinois. In 1948 he was the first in his family to graduate from high school in southern Illinois. The day after graduation he ventured north to Waukegan, Illinois and stayed. He served in the U. S. Army from 1951-53. For the next forty years he worked for the Veterans Administration becoming an electrician. At retirement in 1988 he was the Chief of the Electrical Shop.

Alex was active in the Boy Scouts of America while his children were growing up. After retirement Marion and he enjoyed traveling always visiting children and grandchildren between trips.

Alex was preceded in death by his parents and his cherished wife, Marion, who passed away in 2009. Also preceding him in death were his sister Kathleen Wells and his brother, William Davenport. He was a devoted father to Kenneth Davenport, M.D. (Maura) of Marquette, Michigan, Thomas Davenport of Ogden Dunes, Indiana and James Davenport (Karen) of Orlando, Florida. Alex was a dearly beloved grandfather to Maura (Justin), Kyle, Kelsey, Keith (Kelly), Emily (Brian), Ethan, Nathin and Shannon.

Visitation will be Wednesday July 15, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL 60031. On Thursday July 16, 2015 visitation will be at Marsh Funeral Home at 9 a.m. with a service to follow at 10 a.m. Burial will take place immediately after the service at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Libertyville, IL. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent in Alex and Marion’s memory to The Alzheimer’s Association, 8430 West Bryn Mawr, Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60631
