Bertha (Panayiota) Nastos

The Nastos family lost its matriarch on Saturday, April 15th, 2023. Bertha passed away peacefully, with her loving children by her side, at her daughter Mary’s home in Gurnee, Illinois. Bertha was born in Chicago, Illinois to Nicholas and Mary Floros, on June 25th, 1922.

Bertha was married to James Nastos on April 24th, 1955 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, on April 18th, 1979.

Bertha was also preceded in death by her loving sisters, Anna and Georgia. The three girls shared a very special relationship, remaining close all of their lives, and passing that bond of family values down to their children.

Bertha is survived by her son, Fr. Constantine Nastos (Carolyn) of Ft Myers, Florida; daughter Mary Lannan (Michael) of Gurnee, Illinois and son Nicholas Nastos of Gurnee, Illinois.; grandchildren Christopher, Charles, Arianna, Tyler, Nicholas, Jaymes; and great-grandson, Finnegan Lannan.

Bertha, much loved by many, was a devout Christian and taught Sunday School for many years. She was an avid reader of books, mostly history, but also enjoyed recipes, and home and garden. Bertha had a green thumb. She enjoyed crocheting and frequently made gifts of potholders for family and friends.

Bertha’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She loved attending events, performances, concerts, plays, parties, etc… as long as family was involved.

Friends and family will gather for a visitation at Marsh Funeral Home at 305 North Cemetery Road, Gurnee, Illinois. 60031, on Thursday, April 20th from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 21st, 2023 at 1400 O’Plaine Road, Libertyville, Illinois. 60048. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, 2905 Thatcher Avenue, River Grove, Illinois. 60171.
