Dennis Edward Lamb, 73, passed away peacefully on July 7 at his home surrounded by the love of his life for 51 years, Barbara, his “boy” Danny, his bonus daughter Heather Mae, his “baby girl” Melissa, his grandson “Buddy Boy” Payton, his granddaughter “Fuzzhead” Olivia, and his granddaughter “Curly Joe” Lily.
He is also survived by his son Kurt (Adela) McMasters, granddaughter Brooke McMasters, grandson Shawn McMasters, great granddaughters Maddison and Serenity McMasters, brothers George Lamb and Randy (Carmen) Pearce, in-laws Joan & Gary Knockel and Denise & Jeff Spokas, and many loving nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Dennis was born December 21st, 1948 in Asheville, North Carolina to Homer and Rachel Lamb. He moved to Illinois where he met and married Barbara on November 18th, 1970. His passion was playing 12-inch softball and he managed Ma & Pa’s and Smalls 10th Inning teams in the 1970s-1980s, where they won many tournaments and the Waukegan City Championship. Dennis served in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1974, and he loved his country. He retired from the North Chicago Veterans Hospital in 2010 after 30+ years of service.
Dennis had so much love and pride for the life he had built. He lived in his dream home right on the lake and spent many hours fishing off his pier. He was so proud to have so many “kids” that loved him and he loved every single one of them as much as they loved him. We know he is in heaven sitting on a lake, sipping a cold Miller Lite, casting his fishing pole and yelling at his grandson, Austin McMasters, for casting over his line.
The wake will be on July 12th from 4-9 pm with a service at 7:30 pm at Marsh Funeral Home in Gurnee, IL. As you know, Dennis was a diehard Chicago sports fan so please wear your Bears, White Sox or Blackhawks gear to pay your respects. Anyone wearing Packers and Cubs attire will be denied entry as he would have wished.
