

Jack Benson 78 passed away suddenly on Sunday, Jan 10th 2016 at Vista East Hospital from complications of Parkinson's Disease and Dementia. Lifelong resident of Waukegan. He was born on Apr 25, 1937 to Arnold and Eunice (Clapham) Benson. Graduated from North School, WTHS Class of '54 and University of Denver with a degree in Business Administration. He served in the National Guard attaining the rank of Sergeant. Accepted into the apprenticeship program and became an electrician, working in the field for his father at Benson Electric. When his father retired, he took over as President. Being well versed in all phases and with a highly skilled staff, he successfully ventured into traffic signals, street lighting, etc. He believed in sharing good fortune by giving generous bonuses to his employees. When he retired, the business was sold. He was active with National Electrical Contractors - Served as President of the Waukegan Jaycees and the Lake Co. Contractors Assn, 50 year member of IBEW Local 150, 54 year member Glen Flora C.C. City Club, Apprenticeship Board and Waukegan. Historical Comm. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, Sudoku, dancing, milkshakes, and the adventurous surprises his wife of 55 years came up with - like heli-hiking, white water rafting & kayaking, etc. He is survived by his loving wife Anne, sister Jane in Idaho, sister in law Diane in Montana, numerous nephews and nieces in Alaska, Utah, Idaho & MT. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal services at this time. A celebration of his life will be held at a future date. He has been cremated.
