John was born on January 11, 1930 in Waukegan, IL to John and Mary (Petavs) Kink. His parents were from Slovenia, and grew up in a household with a strong Slovenian heritage; he could speak Slovenian and passed down many of their customs. His catholic faith was also an important part of his life. He graduated from Waukegan High School and was an Army combat veteran, serving in the Korean War. John became a firefighter for the City of Waukegan, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. John was a passionate golfer who enjoyed playing regularly with his firefighter buddies.
In April 1955, he married the love of his life, Rita Ann Donegan of Franklin Park, IL. They were inseparable and loved each other dearly. They raised a son, John and two daughters Doreen and Trisha. John was a wonderful and caring father and for him, family was everything. John and Rita enjoyed traveling and settled in Treasure Island, Florida, which became their second home. For them, happy hour on Treasure Island meant spending quality time with family and friends enjoying Manhattans, their favorite drink.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife Rita and sister, Dorothy Cvetnick. He is survived by his three children; John and wife Kathy, Doreen Eddy and husband Ivan, Trisha Falcone and husband Dominick, five grandchildren Kirstin, Kristina, Dominick, Joseph, and John and a great grandchild Charlie.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated nursing staff and caregivers at 201 Green House at the James A. Lovell Health Care Center, North Chicago, IL.
