Lawrence D. Neargarder

Lawrence Delroy Neargarder, 80, died on Monday, December 4, 2017, at Autumn Leaves-South Barrington. He died peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side after suffering complications from diabetes and dementia. Larry, as his friends called him, was born on April 23, 1937, in Highland Park, Illinois, to Henry and Madeline (Crotty) Neargarder. Larry graduated from Highland Park High School and served in the Army. Prior to retirement, he worked at Abbott Laboratories. He loved cooking, photography, travel, reading and crossword puzzles. While living in Wadsworth, Illinois, Larry and his wife, Sylvia, served as a foster home for beagles for many years for the Midwest Beagle Rescue, Education and Welfare group. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nancy. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia Beardsley; his brother, Andrew Neargarder; his sons, Mark Neargarder and James Neargarder; his daughter, Melissa (Neargarder) Hollander; his grandchildren, Kendra, Elisabeth, Faith, Daniel, Xavier, Cain and Wolfgang; and one great-grandchild, Cordelia.
