

She was born on October 28,1934 in Ramsay, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leo Mattson, with whom she shared 35 wonderful years of marriage. They were members of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Lindenhurst, Illinois since 1965. She graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1952. She also graduated from Comptometer School in 1952 and worked as a key punch operator for many years. At the end of her career, she worked at Lake Villa Township assessor’s office until her retirement in March 1997.
Marilyn is survived by her loving family; 4 children, Susan (Mel) Huwe of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Robert Mattson of Round Lake, IL, Diane (Sean) Dorsey of Vernon Hills, IL, and Dawn (Dave) Kiolbassa of Elgin, IL. She has 6 grandchildren, Kim Massey, Kristen (Jakub) Kruhlik, Courtney Kiolbassa, Curt (Ricki) Kiolbassa, Megan (Noah) Antonneau, and Brynne Dorsey. She also has two great-grandchildren, Julian Massey and Griffin Kiolbassa as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother and father Martha and Wallen Ahola, sister Doris Barney (Ahola), and brother Irving Ahola.
Marilyn was an avid sports fan. She loved the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears, and the Chicago Bulls. She loved to travel and go to the theatre. Frank Sinatra was her favorite singer and the Jersey Boys was her favorite play. She loved crossword puzzles, watching the Buzzer channel, and spending time with her family. Her caring nature and genuine concern for others made her a pillar of strength and comfort for those around her. She was definitely a role model for us all.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, February 25th at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Lindenhurst, Illinois. Visitation is from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service officiated by Pastor Steve Abend from 11:00 - 12:00 PM. After the ceremony, she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Leo, at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville, Illinois.
