Marti Velasco

She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic school in Waukegan, IL and later graduated from North Chicago High School and attended College in Illinois. Marti was then drawn to the military and enlisted in the US Army in 1969 and was honorably discharged in April 1972. After leaving the military Marti found new ways of serving her country by working and later retired from the US EPA. Marti was not the type to stay at home and enjoy retirement, she then began her 30+ year endeavor working for HR Block as a tax Preparer and instructor.

Marti’s life was filled with more than work. She enjoyed traveling, casinos, trying new foods/ restaurants that were featured on food network, playing and telling jokes on those around her. She was always a kid at heart as evident by her love for Elmo that started as a joke. Her mother introduced her to her love of sports. She was an avid Chicago White Sox, Bears and Bulls fan and was able to meet some players through her line of work.

Marti is survived by her daughter Diana (Jim Cronkrite) Velasco, her granddaughter Kathleen Stang, her grandson Michael Cronkrite and her extensive network of family and friends that were always an important part of her life.

Visitation services are scheduled for Monday, January 6, 2025 and Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 4:00pm- 8:00pm at Marsh Funeral Home 305 N Cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL, 60031. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 10:00am at St. Patrick Catholic Church 15000 Wadsworth Rd. Wadsworth, IL. 60083. Interment will be held privately.
