Mary Ellen Kirtz

Mary Ellen was born February 12, 1924 in Waukegan, Illinois to Arthur and Elizabeth (Gray) Coon. She married Lester J. Kirtz on December 21, 1942. After her husband returned from World War II they made their home in Zion until moving to Gurnee in 1972.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lester J. Kirtz Sr., her son Lester J. Kirtz Jr., her parents Arthur and Elizabeth Coon, brother, Joseph Coon, sisters, Martha Wendt and Elizabeth (Sissy) Heaven and grandson Micheal Patrick Kirtz, daughter-in-law, Nita (Murley)Kirtz and son-in-law Robert (Bubba) Pawlick.

She is survived by her brother William Coon, Sun City Grand, AZ, daughters Mary Beth (Arpod) Szatori, Port Charlotte, FL, Susan (John) Meyer, Kenosha, WI, Sharon Pawlick, Punta Gorda, FL and Robin (Joe) Arenas, Silver Lake, WI and her sons Nicholas (Suzi) Kirtz, Kenosha, WI and David Kirtz, Gurnee, IL. She is also survived by many grand-children, great-children and great-great grand-children.

Mary Ellen enjoyed traveling and never missed Wheel of Fortune. Mary Ellen loved to read, she belonged to many book clubs.

Mary Ellen belonged to many service clubs such as ABWA, Ultrusa, Waukegan City Club. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Salvation Army for many years, which she truly enjoyed.

As she said to us every time we left her home,

A visitation for Mary will be held Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N Cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL 60031.
