

Susan K (Golwitzer) Mortensen 58, died Friday December 28,2018 after a short,but courageous battle with cancer. Susan was born April 22,1960 in Waukegan,Illinois to Gary Sr. and Judith Golwitzer. She was the first born of three children and always enjoyed being the big sister to her younger sister and brother as they grew up in Waukegan. She attended Greenwood, Jack Benny Jr High and Waukegan East High School,Class of 1978. After high school,Susan worked at Waukegan Developmental Center for 8 years. She then stayed home to raise her 3 young boys Michael,James and Jeff in their early years. Susan then returned to working and was employed at Orkin in Waukegan.She took a brief break in 2004 to attend to a family crisis and then returned to working at Orkin,where she worked until her passing.She persevered through so much and had to endure every parents worst fear when 2 of her sons,Mike and Jim were tragically killed in a car accident on August 26,2015.Within hours of accepting the tragic news,Susan's first grandchild,Hailey was born. She loved Hailey so much and was so proud of her. She always felt Hailey was a gift from God to replace the loss she felt from her son's deaths.She was loved very much and will be missed terribly by so many. Susan is survived by her son Jeff (Stephanie Jablinskey),her granddaughters Hailey and Natalie,Brother Gary (Inessa) Golwitzer and nephew Niko and many loving Aunts,Uncles and cousins.She was preceded in death by her mother and father,Gary and Judy,her sister Sharon,her sons Mike and Jim,her grandparents Edward and Margaret McNeaney and her grandparents Clyde and Ethyl Golwitzer.Many thanks go out to the staff at Journey Care Hospice for their kind and passionate care helping to make Susan's last days comfortable and peaceful. A special thanks goes out to two special angels,Roza Andreychuk and Karen Hackl. These two amazing women were with Sue and me from the very beginning.They laughed and cried with us and met every challenge with us head on,never once even questioning why,they would just jump in and we would all handle it together.Sue and I both appreciated your dedication,love and kindness more than you will ever know.I know I would not have been able to get through this without the both of you. We both love you.Visitation will be on Saturday January 5th from 9 until 11 am with services immediately following at Marsh Funeral Home,305 N Cemetery Rd. Gurnee. Internment will follow at Highland Memorial Park,33100 N. Hunt Club Rd. Gurnee.
