Victoria "Vic/Vicky" DeMarco née Arena was born on April 5, 1916 in Pocahontas, VA, and spent most of her childhood in Matoaka, WV. One of nine children, she developed her caring nature helping to look after her younger siblings. She loved to reminisce about the family's general store, as well as the large holiday gatherings they had. The family moved to Chicago in the 1930s, and Vic remembered this as a fun time in her life, going out frequently with "the gang." It's also where she met her husband, Joseph. The two moved to rural Wadsworth, Illinois, where they raised their three children. Vic said that the first years in Wadsworth were difficult, as she missed the company of friends and family in the city, but over time, she came to love it there, with her cosy house and enormous garden. She had fond memories of her time working at the Regal China factory and the many friends she made there. She also loved cooking and having visitors: her Goddaughter Dolores and her husband Joe stopped by often, among many others. Visitors in the past decade will recall Vic zooming around the property on her golf cart, eager to remain active even after walking became difficult. Her Catholic faith was important to her throughout her life-she never drove anywhere without her rosary. Vic died peacefully in her sleep on March 18th, 2015 at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by parents Bruno and Vincinzina; siblings Joe, Sam, Tony, Ray, Ernie, and Rudy; husband Joseph; and granddaughter Michelle Nicolay. She is survived by her sisters Lonnie Buseman and Tracie Banser; children Frank, Barbara, and Michael; grandchildren Travis and Tyler Nadelhoffer, Christine DeMarco, Monique Hopper, Amanda, and Vik DeMarco; and great-grandchildren Kingston, Camden, Lilly, Nathan, Austin, Evan, Greyson-as well as a little one who hasn't yet arrived, but who will certainly be hearing a lot about this loving, energetic woman. Visitation will be Monday, February 23rd from 10 a.m. until noon, when a service will be held. It will take place at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL 60031, followed by a procession to the cemetery.
