Born in Poland, he spent the first years of his life in a displaced persons’ camp, coming to the United States before his 5th birthday and settling in Brooklyn, New York with his parents Chaya and Joseph, who were holocaust survivors.
He learned English while attending Yeshiva Torah V’Daas, followed by Brooklyn Tech High School graduating at the age of 16 - then proceeding to City College for his BA, Cornell for his Masters, and NYU where he earned his PHD in applied physics. He worked full time as a research physicist at Exxon and
later Phillips where he simultaneously worked and studied nights to earn his law degree at New York Law School. He focused on intellectual property law as an associate attorney and later became a partner at
Amster Rothstein & Ebenstein. For the last ten years of his career, retiring only two weeks ago, he was
an intellectual property partner at Wiggin & Dana. Never one to be less than fully busy, he also taught as an adjunct professor of intellectual property at New York Law School.
He was a multi-talented musician enjoying all types of music. He played accordion for an Italian wedding band as a teenager, was self -taught on the piano and the guitar and his
taste ranged from classical music to jazz to hard rock and to klezmer to name just a few. He danced and sang with joy. Heloved jamming in the music room and singing altogether with
the family during their many shared vacations. Above all else he loved his family. He was a natural
teacher enjoying teaching AP Physics to his high school aged son and his son’s friends, math to his grandchildren and other relatives. He was a man who could grasp almost any sophisticated technology
and could fix almost anything. He was intensely curious about astronomy and nature and his smile
emerged like sunshine when he encountered something new and interesting.
He is survived by his wife Marcia of 54 years; his sons Michael (Lisa Duggan) and David (Kate Elliott) and his daughter Lisa (Joshua Brenner); his grandchildren Jacob, Lauren, Eli, Abby, Benjamin, and Noah and he was eagerly awaiting the birth of his 7th grandchild.
We all mourn the loss of this mensch. It is immeasurable.
