Alex Salit, age 97, of Ft. Lee New Jersey, passed away peacefully on October 27. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Gloria Ackerman Salit.
Born in New York, NY the elder son of Morris and Bella Salit, he grew up in the Bronx, NY attending Peter Stuyvesant High School and later, Benjamin Baruch College, earning a BA in accounting and achieving CPA certification. He honorably served in the US Army during World War II. He worked as comptroller for the William Nelkin Company in New York City for over 5 decades.
Alex was a member of the Fort Lee Jewish Center (Gesher Shalom). An avid reader, his interests included travel and the New York Yankees. He was a devoted grandfather who embraced the sports teams of the schools his grandchildren attended. He donated generously to charities and was an active participant in many Jewish organizations.
He is survived by his children… Michael (Joan) Salit of Wilton, Connecticut; Jeri (Hal Scherz) Salit, of Atlanta, Georgia; and Susan (Alfred) Tocci, of New Hope, Pennsylvania also by his grandchildren Robert Lekai, Noah Scherz, Arielle Scherz, Sarah Tocci, Laura Tocci, Jenna Scherz and Jack Tocci.
Services for Alex were held graveside at Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus, New Jersey. If desired, memorial contributions may be sent to ORT America or to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
