Charles “Chuck” Wayte mercifully passed on November 30, 2025 in Englewood, New Jersey under excellent care. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, on September 3, 1933, Chuck entered the world under difficult circumstances—his father, Charles Reinhorn, was tragically killed in an accident shortly before Chuck’s birth. An only child, he was raised by his mother, Pearl, and his grandparents Dorothy and Richard Loeb. Pearl remarried Stanley Wayte when Charles was an adolescent and he became Chuck Wayte.
In the late 50’s Chuck moved to Chicago where he began a career in the trucking industry. Shortly thereafter, he was then called to serve in the U.S. Army near Seattle, Washington. Back near Western Canada, he had the opportunity to visit friends in Vancouver, including Arleen Buckshon, whom he married in August 1960. Arleen and Chuck settled in Chicago and eventually New Jersey, where they raised their daughters, Amy (Zagin) and Leslie (Heineman), in Englewood Cliffs and later Tenafly.
Chuck was known for his warmth, generous spirit, and sense of humor. Beginning in 1980, he became deeply involved in the Kaplen JCC in Tenafly, where he served and actively participated until just a few weeks before his death.
Chuck’s greatest pride and joy were his beloved daughters, Amy and Leslie (“the Wayte Sisters”), their husbands David Zagin and Steven Heineman, and his adored grandchildren —Andrew (Julia), Emily (Andrew), Matthew, Ally, and Jack. He most recently delighted in the “New Girl”, his great-granddaughter, Eden Jacobs.
Chuck touched everyone around him. His memory will continue to inspire the family and community he loved so deeply.
We will be celebrating his life on Wednesday, December 3 at 3pm, with a service at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 W. 76th St. If you would like to memorialize Chuck, please consider donating to his beloved Kaplen JCC of Tenafly, to the Arleen & Chuck Wayte Scholarship Fund for Families in Need.
