I had the privilege of knowing Connie personally for several years. Her reality was far from the appearance of living a charmed life. Yet,  Connie always conducted herself with a grace and dignity few other have,  despite great adversity. A dedicated mother, wife, friend and teacher she will be sorely missed. She remains an inspiration to me and those of us who were lucky enough to have known her. I credit her with the happiness and contentment I have finally found.

I remember Connie Hochberg ("Mrs. Hochberg" to me) as one of my fantastic history teachers at NV Demarest.  I was her student for US History II in 1985-1986.  Having gone on to be a professional historian, I am keenly aware of my fortune in having as enthusiastic and rigorous an instructor as Mrs. Hochberg.  I have always appreciated that she gave us serious books by prominent historians rather than standard-issue textbooks by committee.  She kept us engaged with varied, provocative writing assignments.  She let us run with our enthusiasms but when we ran out on illogical limbs, she would douse us off with some healthy skepticism.  She encouraged me personally to apply for extracurricular academically-focused activities, one of which was a life-changer for me.  I will always remember her and her classroom quite fondly.

Throughout the years since Northern Valley ('76), I thought often about Dr. Constance Hochberg. She was one of the people who inspired me to earn a doctorate. She was a wonderful teacher, and an equally impressive woman of her time. In class, she opened new worlds to us, and she was feminist voice in an important time in my life. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. Her memory is a blessing to all who knew her.

He was the best. She inspired me to want to learn in an environment that only applauded students who could test well and on paper look smart. I was one who never tested well but was really smart. She took a subject that was boring and lame and brought to life with her special voice.  I have borrowed many of her techniques in my classes as I am a part time professor in NYC. She also was pretty and had great style. I hate to see her go .

Connie was one of the "giants" who made the reputation of the Northern Valley Regional High School District what it is today.  She will be missed by her colleagues and all of the students whose lives she touched.

The memories I have of Connie not only include her dedication to young people, her intelligence and professionalism as a colleague, but her kindness, gentleness and grace in her personal relationships. She remains a role model for those who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Beautiful in mind and face,smart and funny and loyal and lovely, Connie was one of the nicest people I have ever known. I was privledged to be counted  a friend. We attended Mt. Holyoke together many, many years ago and I was so lucky to have  met her.
. Your service for her was a tribute to the wonderful person she was and the hundreds of people there showed what a wonderful influence she had on people's lives and how very much she was cared for by all who knew her.

My deepest sympathies to Connie's family. Connie was truly a gifted soul who cared so much about the children and families in Bergen County. I so enjoyed working with Connie who always had a smile on her face. God Bless.

Connie was a true advocate for children. She brought a sense of dignity, integrity and passion to our committee work on child care in Bergen County. She was a supportive volunteer in the truest sense and will never be replaced. I will miss her, and am a better person having known her.

I am so sorry to hear of Connie's passing, my thoughts and prayers to her famly. She was such a joy to work with when I was at Northern Valley.

Mrs. Hochberg was my junior year US II teacher. I think because I enjoyed modern history more than anything else, I enjoyed her class the best. I still remember the Holocaust project for her class and the interview I did with a survivor of the concentration camps. I believe I teach history today because of the effect teachers like Mrs. Hochberg had on me.

I had the great, good fortune to work with Connie on the Human Services Advisory Council for many years. She was a thoughtful leader, committed advocate, selfless volunteer and wise colleague. Her concern for children, individuals with disabilities and families who were struggling was unparalleled and she put that concern into action. There was never a task to large or too small for Connie to undertake if it would help make life better for people in need. The people of Bergen County have lost one of their biggest champions. Connie will be missed by all who knew and worked with her.

I had the good fortune to have Connie as a colleague in the Social Studies Department at Northern Valley Demarest. In fact, when I first started teaching in Demarest in 1985, Connie was assigned as my 'buddy'. My supervisor said, "I think this is a good fit because she's also a Barnard alumna, and she'll show you what's expected." And she did, but always with grace, humor and kindness. As a relatively new teacher it was wonderful to always have someone to whom I could turn for professional advice and with whom I could discuss historical content. She has nurtured the intellect and character of literally thousands of students over the course of her 26 year career. She had high expectations, and brought out the best in her students and colleagues. She was not just a teacher's teacher, but an exceptional person. What a wonderful legacy!

"Connie, was a very caring and gentel woman." She always had a great smile for everyone. You will be missed by many of us at the Bergen County Department of Human Services.

Connie's demeanor and classroom presence reflected her care and concern for  humanity and her commitment to better society by leading her students toward excellence. It was an honor to know her as a colleague at NVRHS Demarest.

In October 2008 Mrs. Hochberg, along with other respected teachers, attended a reception for the NVRHS Class of 1974 reunion.  She was warm, wise, charismatic and humorous.  We will miss her at our 40th reunion, but we are all grateful we knew her.

Connie was an intelligent and caring human being, as teacher to most of our five children at NVD and as a co-worker. After she retired, I remember how she, along with Bea Podorefsky, volunteered her time and talent working endless hours putting together Northern Valley's 40th Reunion Yearbook. She will be remembered fondly by all those who knew her.

Connie was a lovely woman with such a generous spirit.  I didn't have the pleasure of working directly with her on any of the HSAC committees but I did have the honour of participating in the Family Fun Festival that she and Bea spearheaded; it was always a treat to see her there in her element of helping children.  She always had a friendly word and a brilliant smile for me.  She will be greatly missed. Please accept my sincere condolences. I hope your own loving memories of this wonderful woman will be of comfort.
