Cynthia Golbe died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 87 on February 22, 2017. She was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease in an advanced stage. Cynthia’s many interests and unflagging energy won her many devoted friends over the years.
Daughter of immigrants from Poland, she grew up in The Bronx, graduating from Evander Childs High School in 1946 and from City College with a business degree in 1950. In that year, she married Al Golbe, then a junior advertising executive. Cynthia, Al and their sons Larry and Mike moved to Englewood in 1959, where she continued to reside until 2016.
Her interests included art, especially Art Nouveau, opera, chamber music, theater, international travel, skiing, tennis and gardening. She volunteered as Treasurer for the Arts Center of Northern New Jersey and for the Englewood Historical Society. At age 40, she earned a Masters of Business Administration at Baruch College of City University, specializing in computer methodology, and worked as an accountant well into her 70s. She was active in the Parent-Teacher Organization, where one of her tasks was as prop manager for PTO musical productions. Every Election Day for many years, the Golbe home served as the Democratic Party’s get-out-the-vote command center for Englewood’s Third Ward.
A few months after Al died in 2003, Cynthia met Ed Forman on a blind date. They became life partners and shared happy years with theater, opera, art and friends. Aside from Al, Cynthia is predeceased by her sister Lorraine. She leaves Ed, sons Larry and Mike, daughter-in-law Devra, grandchildren Jonathan and Susan, and in-laws Karen Bard and Paul Guinzburg and Muncie Hendler.
