Joseph Hyman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many died peacefully on October 17, 2025 after 93 rich years of life. He is survived by his son Daniel (Martha Sack), daughter Laura, and his four grandchildren Benjamin, Emily, Michael and Katie who adored him and who he adored right back . He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Helen (Kalb), and his older brother Sam.
Joe graduated from City College in 1954 with a Bachelor’s in Business and served in the US Army, based in Germany after World War II. He and Helen were introduced by air mail letters (by each of their soon to be married best friends) while he was in the service, and then met and married upon his return. He had a long career in flooring sales and distribution before officially retiring many years ago (a few years after he actually stopped working, as he liked to joke). Joe loved reading, music, photography, watching movies (Casablanca was a favorite) and sports/tennis but cherished his family most of all. He was joyful with their visits and calls right up to his last days.
Funeral services will be held at Gutterman Musicant, 402 Park St, Hackensack, NJ on Monday October 20 at 12:30 pm followed immediately by burial at Cedar Park cemetery, 735 Forest Ave. Paramus, NJ.
At this time of fragile but hopeful healing in Israel, Gaza and the Middle East, the family welcomes contributions in Joe's memory to Hand to Hand, or to a charity of your choice. Hand to Hand is an organization that builds connections and peace between Jewish and Arab communities through an expanding network of bilingual, integrated schools and communities
