Leo Lowy was a strong, unusual, and charming man.  Our father, Sydney Lesser, then an American army lieutenant, met him as a young teenaged prisoner at the liberation from the horrors of Buchenwald.  We remember him at our brother's Bar Mitzvah, and the the 90th birthday celebrations of each of our parents.  I heard him speak to a large group of fidgety teenagers and hold them spellbound with his recounting of being in concentration camps.  He made me laugh with his stories of skiing when he was well into his senior years.  He gave me a copy of the book "We Are Children After All", a compilation of stories and art created by the child prisoners while he was at the infamous Tereizn (Theresienstadt) which I treasure, as all of us who knew him treasure his memory.

Leo was admired and respected by all of us. Our late father, Sydney Lesser, z"l,was lieutenant to Capt. Way, part of the 639th AAA battalion that 'adopted' Leo at Buchenwald's liberation when he was a teen. Leo was devoted to his wife & family.  We will always remember him, & his dear wife Evelyn --whom we last saw at our own mother's simcha, a 90th birthday party 5 years ago--  Shalom.

Leo was a man of intelligence, warmth, & compassion.  My family & I will miss him greatly.  R.I.P. my friend & shalom.
