Miriam was born on the Lower East Side of NYC. Her parents, Minnie and Max, immigrated to the USA from Poland just prior to World War I. As a child Miriam was given the nickname “Mitzy” which stuck with her for life. Mitzy’s two loving older sisters, Freida and Sylvia, together with their parents, created a home filled with love, warmth and affection. At the age of seven, Mitzy and her family moved to Williamsburg, Brooklyn where she graduated from Eastern District High School. She married her one and only true love, Joseph, in 1948 and shortly thereafter moved to Staten Island, where she raised her two children, Linda and Marc. Mitzy joyfully became a doting grandmother to Allison and Serena and then an amazing great-grandmother (“GiGi”) to Klay and Leah.
Mitzy worked in the library at the College of Staten Island for 25 years. Along with Joe, the happy couple traveled to many countries throughout Europe including Greece and Israel. She loved all these wonderful vacations. When she and Joe retired they moved to Sunrise, FL where they resided for the next 25 years. Mitzy and Joe maintained a very active retirement, playing tennis, golf, bowling, canasta and mah-jongg. To escape from the summer heat Mitzy and Joe spent summers enjoying the fresh air of the Catskill Mountains in Monticello, NY.
The next 8 years Mitzy happily lived at Arbor Terrace in Teaneck, NJ where she and Joe settled in to spend their remaining years and continued all their social engagements.
Mitzy and Joe were fortunate to have a loving, supporting marriage for 72 wonderful years. They were truly two peas in a pod.
Mitzy always maintained a loving, positive outlook on life. She was an incredibly patient, kind, compassionate and affectionate person. She always appreciated the long, happy, fulfilling and joyous life she was blessed with.
The family truly appreciates your kindness in honoring her memory.
