

LEVIN - Norman, passed away on December 7, 2015 after struggling for the past 5 years with Alzheimer's Disease. Norm was born in Jersey City, NJ on June 15, 1945 and grew up in North Bergen. He graduated high school from Jersey Academy and received his BS in 1968 from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Being exceptionally civic minded, during his high school and college years, Norm was an auxiliary policeman in North Bergen and a member of the ambulance squad. After a career in sales from 1968 through 1975, he went into the family hardware/houseware business and subsequently became owner of Herman's Department Store in Jersey City, and Norman's Discount Center, also in Jersey City. In the 1980's and 1990's, continuing his love of volunteering and community service, he served on various business councils in Jersey City, was a member of the Hackensack Board of Education for nine years, served as President of Temple Beth Israel in Maywood, and was Chairman of the Giving Council of the Stevens Institute of Technology (Hoboken) Parents' Association. In 1997, after closing his Jersey City businesses, he was appointed Constable of the City of Hackensack and served with distinction in that capacity until his retirement in 2011. He leaves his wife of 47 years, Susan (Jacobson), son Adam and wife Christine, daughter Lauren and husband Juan, sister Joyce and husband Harvey, and eight grandchildren. Our loving husband, father, brother, and PopPop will be sorely missed. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Gutterman and Musicant Funeral Directors, 402 Park Street, Hackensack, with interment at Beth Israel Memorial Park, Woodbridge, NJ.
