Richard ‘s smitbrightened my day. I recall being part of a quartet singing group for a school performance and overcoming my shyness due to his encouragement.
I was appointed to PS 187 iabout six months before he became the principal and enjoyed the coincidence of being married to his first cousin, my
Husband Bob. My husband remembered being his “babysitter “!!

I met Mr. Darwick in 1979 when I attended PS 187 and he was my School Principal.  It was the first time I realized how short my father was, standing next to Mr. Darwick.  He was a respected man with an important job, which he loved to do.  

You will be missed Mr. Darwick.

I knew Richard Darwick a.k.a. " uncle Dick" my entire life. As a boy, I attended his camp, had lunch  and dinner in his house, and always looked forward to speaking with him.  As an adult, I felt like he was one of my true friends.  He was a selfless, giving human being who always put his family and friends first. A model father and mentor.  When you walked into a room you could only feel the love and warmth hitting you as you saw him in the distance.  Without his friendship I would have never adopted my son.  He was one of the great ones and will truly be missed but never forgotten.  Jeff Welsch

Dick married my cousin Barbara and we had wonderful days together.  When I visited Dick in a dimentia facility recently the director told me that whenever they had a fire drill Dick became "the principal" again and directed traffic.  His love for family and profession never wavered.  Ira Shain

Richard was tall and I am short. so whenever he greeted me I was given a tender kiss on the forehead.  He was truly a gentle man and a gentleman.  He was a mensch!  Sylvia Shain

I knew Mr. Darwick when he started his.career as a 5th grade teacher at PS 152 M.  Years later he became my mentor offering guidance to a new teacher as Asst. Principal at PS 115 M. I met him a few times in the past years and it was always with a warm smile and easy conversation. May he rest in Peace

Mr. Darwick was my principal at P.S.187 many years ago and co-owner of the best camp i went to.....Pine Brook Day Camp. He was a very sweet man. May he rest in peace.

With fond memories of summers with "Uncle Dick", I send my condolences to the Darwick family.

Dick was one of my best pals for 50 years. We walked and we talked. We socialized. We had laughs and arguments. What a guy.

He was a good man and a very nice person.

He was my 6th grade teacher at PS 152....A number of years later when I began my 35 year teaching career, he was my supervisor....I then worked for him at Pine Brook Day Camp which I eventually bought.....He was a wonderful man, mentor and boss....Indeed he will be missed

Richard Darwick was like a surrogate father to me throughout my childhood. He was very tough and very gentle at the same time. He contributed to my life in tremendous ways
