Sidney Davis was born in Brooklyn NY on March 28, 1926 to Meyer and Bessie Davis. He was married to Bernice Davis for over 50 years. He received a B.A. degree from Brooklyn College and a law degree from New York University. He served in the U.S. army towards the end of World War II.
Sidney was an entrepreneur; he founded the Electronic Computer Programming Institute, the first privately established vocational school to teach computer programming skills. The company grew to over 100 franchised locations world-wide and was listed on the American Stock Exchange.
He was well known in New York musical circles for his music buildings – buildings renovated into studios that were leased to musicians for practice. The music buildings were written up in the Wall Street Journal and highlighted on the Today show.
He loved horses and raced thoroughbreds
at major tracks on the East Coast for more than a decade. Sidney passed away on March 19, 2018. He is survived by his two sons, Larry and Edward, their wives Joan and Daryl, his sister Wilma Appel and her husband Allen, his grandson Jason, his wife Kay, and great-grandson Sidney Eugene Davis.
Service was held Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors.
Interment followed at Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus, NJ
