With great sadness we advise that Alan completed his life’s journey on December 17, 2015 at age 89. Born in Eastbourne, England he was the eldest son of Ernest and Louisa Wood. In addition to his parents, Alan was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Vera Doreen Wood, and his brother, Derek.
He is survived by his daughter Michele Wood-Tweel (Michael Tweel); grand-daughter, Alison Tweel; brothers Gordon (Gisele) and Ian (Jenny); sister-in-law Beatrice Cliffe and several nephews.
Alan served as a signalman in the British Royal Navy and was deployed on several ships during and following World War II. After immigrating to Canada, he enjoyed working and living in Ontario, Alberta and settling in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Alan was an enthusiastic and dedicated worker. His career included many interesting and challenging positions ending with his retirement as Maritime Region Manager with Hudson’s Bay Wholesale.
Alan was a friendly, out-going individual who easily took- up sports and new adventures. He enjoyed a long retirement with travel, family times and outdoor activities including fishing on Grand Lake and gardening. Alan was helpful to those who needed assistance and often lent a helping hand. We will always miss his love, sense of humour, resilience and determination.
A private family service has been held. If desired, a donation to Alan’s memory would be greatly appreciated to: Christ Church (Dartmouth), Saint Mary’s University, IWK Health Centre Foundation or Sacred Heart School of Halifax
