It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Brian Gallant on October 23, 2016 at age 64. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Geraldine and Frederick Rumsey, and biological father Dorisse Gallant. He was predeceased by his father Dorisse and sister Linda Barbara Gallant, in infancy. Survived by his wife Cheryl, cherished daughter Jackie, sister Gail (Glyn) Maddison, brother Stephen (Rosalind) Gallant, brother-in-law Earl (Darlene) Graham, sister-in-law Diane (Les) Sampson, step sisters Deborah (Micheal) MacKenzie and Holly Rumsey, and his many nieces and nephews. Brian was an Architect Technologist, working with PWGSC for 35 years. He was proud of his many accomplishments including working on projects at Anne of Green Gables, Ardgowan, Citadel Hill, Annapolis Royal, Signal Hill, Cape Spear, Fundy Covered Bridge and many other sites far too numerous to list, but his most cherished was his work as Project Manager for L' Anse Aux Meadow’s NHS where he was welcomed by the wonderful community, especially by the Decker family. Brian and Cheryl enjoyed their adventures to far away places such as Turkey, South East Asia, Thailand, Tunisia, Malta, Europe, Central America, and South America, China, Morocco & Portugal with Jackie and many other fascinating places. One special project dealing with canons took him to Poland in 1970. Very few canons around the world have managed to elude Brian's keen eye and Nikon. He was a lover of hot sauces and foreign cuisine, never afraid to try new delicacies…and share a bite with Gibson. Brian and Cheryl fundraised for many months to participate in a full marathon in Iceland for Team Diabetes; with Fred and Jackie in tow, they crossed one hell of a finish line! They participated in 13 Bluenose Marathon events and other races, one just last month in Eastern Passage with Jackie & John. He loved hiking and nature. Many days and weekends were spent at the soccer pitch (in sun, rain or sleet) cheering & supporting his daughter Jackie. Most memorable was the trip the team took to Montreal. He had a knack for fixing and tinkering anything that needed or didn't need to be fixed, always with the right tool for any job; "he was born with a paintbrush in his hand". Brian especially enjoyed his time when he volunteered at Souls Harbour. At the personal request of Brian, there will be no funeral or visitation.
Donations in Brian's memory can be made to Souls Harbour, Parker Street Food & Furniture Bank or Charity of Choice.
