

SKIBA, Bruce Larry, 61, of Halifax passed away on November 27, 2012, at the Palliative Care Unit after a 16-month battle with brain cancer. He was born on January 15, 1951, in Halifax. He was the son of Shirley Skiba (Murphy) and the late Stanley Skiba. He graduated from the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology in 1972 with an Electronic Engineering Diploma; worked for 25 years for Maritime Telephone and Telegraph Co., and was then self-employed for a number of years. He was an active member of the Boy Scouts of Canada for 25 years; sharing his love of camping, hiking, canoeing, and the great outdoors with youth of many ages. In 2009, he achieved a life-long dream of becoming a professional engineer. After retirement, he and his wife Janet spent winters in Florida and summers at their cottage in Greenfield, NS, where he spent many happy hours on his boat and enjoyed the sunsets with his family and friends and a glass or two of wine. He is survived by his wife Janet of 42 years, his son Kris and wife Marie Claire, his daughter Charlotte, his sister Sharon Spicer and husband Mike, and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express since thanks to the QEII Palliative Care Team for their wonderful care, support, and kindness. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2012, with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, both in Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St. Halifax. Interment will be in Greenfield, NS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada or a charity of your choice.
