David George Organ, age 82 of Halifax, N.S passed away September 11, 2025 at the Melville Lodge in Spryfield.
Born in St. Albans Bay d’Espoir Newfoundland, he was the son of John Organ and Elizabeth Organ.
Dave was born and raised in the small town of St. Albans, Bay d’Espoir in January of 1943. He was the fifth of nine children to Elizabeth and John. His childhood playground was the beautiful landscape and rugged seashore of rural Newfoundland where he learned to love hunting, fishing and finding mischief around every corner!
Dave moved to Halifax in 1961when he was 18 years old looking for adventure and a future. He got his first job at the fish plant where he worked for 13 years. Dave knew Catherine from his youth, and they had been exchanging letters for some two years when Dave convinced her to join him in Halifax. Dave met 18 year old Catherine at the train station. They had a short courtship and soon returned to Newfoundland to be married on August 7, 1965, in front of family and friends.
Fifteen months later they welcomed their first child, Sandra in November of 1966. Paul came along in May of 1968, David in September of 1969 and their dear baby Yvonne in February 1972. Sadly, they would only have their baby for a short four months. Our family grew up camping, fishing, eating big family dinners and the occasional trip to Newfoundland to visit our many cousins and extended family.
Eventually Dave started working at Dover Mills in 1974. He was very proud of his time there and made many friends. Dave was a social man who loved big family and friend gatherings, his wife’s cooking, a cold beer and of course he always had a joke or two to liven up the room.
Dave loved children. If there was a baby in the room, you would be sure to find it in his arms. He was thrilled when the grandbabies began arriving. He lavished every bit of love he could on his 6 grandchildren and later his 6 great grandchildren.
Sadly, Dave and Catherine lost their youngest son two years ago. Dave was ill by this time but he never lost his zest for life throughout most of his ordeal. He continued to love the outdoors, watching the animals in the park, eating ice cream, listening to Newfie music and spending time with his family, especially Catherine, the love of his life.
He was survived by his wife Catherine Elizabeth Organ; daughter Sandra Ann Organ (David Robertson); son Paul Anthony Organ (Lise Lacoste); sisters Margaret MacIsaac (Dave) and Jenny Collier (Johnny Collier); brothers Johnny Organ (Mary Organ) and Anthony Organ (Shirley Organ); six grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and Nephews.
He is predeceased by daughter Yvonne Marie Organ; son David Michael Organ (Michele Organ); sisters Laura O’Quinn (Johnny O’Quinn), Philomena Osbourne (Gordon Osbourne), and Patsy Organ; and brother Mike Organ.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax from 11am-1pm.
Funeral service will be held Monday, September 22, 2025 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, 18 Scholars Road off Hammonds Plains Road at 11am with Father John MacPherson officiating, with reception to follow.
Burial at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Red Cross or Recreation department at Melville Lodge.
