

Burke, Eileen Mable (Giles)-The family is sadden to announce Eileen’s passing on May 17, 2013 at the QE II Halifax Infirmary. Born in Sutton-in-Ashfield, England she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Maude (Marshall) Giles.
Eileen immigrated to Halifax from England with her parents and brother at the age of two. During WW II she worked at the H.M.C Dockyard in the communications office. She was awarded an Honorary Certificate from the Royal Humane Association of Canada for helping save a man from drowning. In 2007 she was inducted into the Sackville Sports Hall of Fame for holding the Maritime Senior Ladies water skiing championship for eight years from 1953-1960. Eileen loved to travel, spend time in her garden and at the cottage, she enjoyed boating and being on the water, and Loved to play Scrabble at every opportunity.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Maude Schnare (Wayne); son, Clarence Paul; sister, Barbara Craft; and two grandsons, Christopher Payne and Ryan Burke and numerous nieces and nephews.. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Clarence “Jock”; daughter-in-law, Angela Burke; and brother, Gilbert “Bob” Giles.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 22, 2013 at from 12-1pm followed by a funeral service at 1pm in Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. Interment to follow in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Sackville. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
