Eileen Cleghorn, born in 1923, grew up on the family farm in southern New Brunswick, and she never stopped carrying it in her heart. It was there that our Mum learned the values of hard work, immoveable integrity, compassion for those in need, hospitality and taking everything to her Lord in prayer. These, along with enduring wisdom, genuine warmth, humor and love of fun with family and long-time friends, are her legacy.
Mum and Dad both thoroughly enjoyed welcoming the steady stream of their kids’ friends through our door, many of whom clearly and fondly remember those times today.
Special mention is due “the Simpsons crowd”, a great group of women with whom Mum worked in the Credit Department for several years. These friendships endured long past retirement, when all who could gathered annually for hugs, dinner, updates, and lots of laughter.
Mum woke up every day with a smile. Through all of life’s ups and downs, she remained wholly grateful for her blessings, giving her a consistent pleasantness which made her a joy to be with. On the morning of July 22, 2022, at age 99, at home with family, our Mum passed on from this world as peacefully as she had lived in it.
Our family sincerely thanks friends, neighbours and out of province family for their love and support. Words are inadequate to describe the depth of our gratitude to Dr. Bronwen Jones, so we say simply, “Thank you”. We also acknowledge Care Coordinator Jennifer Legere for her kindness, as well as the home-caregivers who helped immeasurably. Mum truly appreciated the comfort which each of you provided.
Eileen was pre-deceased by parents Arthur and Cora Cleghorn, husband George Clarke and brother Alton Cleghorn.
Cherishing her memory is daughter Colleen Clarke; daughter Janice (Clarke) Morehouse and husband Dan Morehouse; son John and wife Velvet (Reyno) Clarke; granddaughter Kayla (Clarke) Nguyen and husband John Nguyen; grandson Adam Morehouse and fiancé Maricel Bulusan, and grandson Ben Clarke, all of whom adored their “Nan”. And, of course, Eileen’s new, little great-granddaughter, Brynne Nettie Nguyen.
Should you wish, donations in Eileen’s memory can be made to The Salvation Army or The Soul’s Harbour Rescue Mission. There will not be a local visitation or funeral; a family graveside service will be held in St. Stephen, New Brunswick in September.
