

FERGUSON, Elmer L.— 97, born in Tangier, a son of the late Percy Stansmore Ferguson and Harriet (Josey) Ferguson. His first experience in the business world was working in the family grocery store during summer vacations. After completing his education he went to work at Maritime Telegraph and Telephone Co., in Halifax. Two years later he was hired by Canada Packers, the largest food company in Canada. He started in the warehouse to learn the production, then to the office and after that sales. In 1942 he joined the Canadian Army. In 1946 he retired as a staff sergeant and returned to Canada Packers as a salesman in Halifax. In 1949 he was appointed assistant manager of the Halifax Fruit and Vegetable division, in 1952 he was appointed manager and in 1957 General Manager, Atlantic Canada. He was a 50 year member of Keith Lodge and a member of Episcopal Church now located on Main Street. He was predeceased by his first wife, Frances O'Toole. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; sisters, Muriel Gesner (Lloyd), Burlington; Inez Bolong, Halifax; Dorothy Lamont, Dartmouth; brother, Donald Ferguson, Tangier; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 12 in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St. Halifax. A committal service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, November 14 in Tangier Anglican Church Cemetery.
