

Gerry was born in Quebec City on May 26, 1946, the eldest child of Gerald Arthur O’Brien and Dorothy Helen Grady.
Gerry moved to Halifax in the 1960’s where he eventually settled. Over the years he followed a varied career path. He spent time in Mexico with Oxfam; joined the Halifax Reserves; studied maritime drafting; and, until his retirement in 2011, worked at the Salvation Army Men’s Hostel in Halifax.
Gerry was pre-deceased by his father in 1981, mother in 2009 and sister, Trudy Anne, in 2012.
Gerry was an awesome older brother and uncle. Mourning his passing are his sister, Maureen Habermeyer (Alfred), brother Tim (Vicci) O’Brien, three nieces, Andrea and Kasia Habermeyer and Hailey O’Brien, and two nephews, Neal Habermeyer and Grady O’Brien, all of Calgary, Alberta.
Visitation will be held 6-8pm Tuesday November 5,2003 in Cruikshanks Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St. Halifax where a funeral service will be held 2 pm Wednesday November 6,2013 with Rev. John den Hollander officiating . Interment at a later date.
The family would like to offer their deepest appreciation to the VON Nurses of Halifax and the Palliative Care team at the Victoria General Hospital for their gentle and caring treatment of Gerry in his final days.
