Grace Gardiner of Halifax, passed away on May 3rd, 2024 surrounded by her family at Oceanview Manor. She was born on July 25th, 1923. Grace had a very happy home life with her parents Marion & Ernest Morton. She fondly talked about sitting by her father at the piano and singing with him, and daily shared pearls of wisdom from her mother. Grace shared many fond memories of family times together during her growing up years. She married Harry Gardiner, who had served in the Navy, and graced their dinner table many times during his time in Halifax. Grace & Harry relocated to Toronto for Harry’s work and after 35 years, as promised, they returned to Halifax, where Grace felt she was finally at home again.
Grace was predeceased by her parents, brothers Ernest (Jock), Lorne, Carl & sister Elaine, plus her husband Harry, son Alan both within 3 weeks and daughter Valerie. She is survived by her son John (Antionette), Paul (Nancy), daughter- in- law Lois, and grandchildren, Sandra, Lori, Lucas, John Michael, Eric, Colin, Kerry, & Colin Alexander. Grace is also survived by several great grandchildren.
Grace enjoyed her Wednesday morning Coffee Hour at the McDonald Apartment building, plus sharing her fan favorite casseroles and cakes for their potluck dinners. She loved to sing, especially the old war time songs.
Grace’s lasting legacy to her entire family & friends is her wit & humour. She never failed to keep us laughing, no matter the circumstances.
After her fall when she broke her hip, she so enjoyed her “morning meetings” with her close friend & neighbour Jeanette Milley. For which the Gardiner family will be forever grateful for Jeanette’s tender loving care.
The family would also like to thank the nurses & staff at Oceanview Manor 3rd floor all departments, for the excellent and loving care they showed Grace during the last year of her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any charity of your choice.
