Granville, Greta Marie - 88, passed away on August 5, 2011 in Arborstone Enhanced Care. Born in Elmsdale, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Edward and Greta (Wallace) Granville. Greta was educated at Mount St. Vincent and excelled at sports, particularly tennis. Her interest in athletics never waned. She followed hockey, baseball, tennis, and golf on television and knitted as she tracked game stats. Her nieces and nephews were recipients of homemade sweaters each year for their birthdays. During her working career, Greta was employed at the Halifax Water Commission. Upon her retirement, she lovingly cared for her parents in their final years. She was an involved and valued member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and an active member of the Catholic Women’s League. For many years, she was a weekly volunteer at Hand-In-Hand. Greta was a keen bridge player and enjoyed travelling, visiting innumerable spots on all continents except Antarctica. Greta is survived by brothers Owen (Carol), Bernard, Paul, John (Helen), nieces and nephews Sandra (Jim) MacDonald, Margaret Granville (Michael Foster), Frania Granville (Ron Bell), Steve (Maggie) Granville, Scott Granville, Sean (Karen) Granville, Sheena (Brian) Quish, and Shelagh (Keith) Machin. She was predeceased by brother Edward and sister-in-law Stella. Family and friends will be received at Cruikshanks Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street on Tuesday August 9, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A funeral mass will be held 10 am Wednesday August 10, 2011 in St. John the Baptist Church, Father Joseph Thomas officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice. A special thank you to the staff at Arborstone who cared for Greta over her last four years. Thanks also to Martha Smith and Peggy Anderson for their dedication to Greta.
