

Farmer, Helen Louise of Halifax passed away January 3rd 2026 at the Halifax Infirmary QEII Site.
Helen was the first Black baby born in Bridgewater NS and daughter of the late Andrew Farmer and Marrion Jarvis-Dimples (Murray).
Helen worked in Hotels such as the Holiday Inn and the Citadel for many years as a Housekeeper. Helen enjoyed spending time with her family and nothing pleased her more than a good old kitchen birthday party with singing, dancing and lots of food. Helen was most happy when feeding people and made sure you had exactly what you liked when you visited her home. Helen loved fashion, shopping, and playing cards for change. She would play all night if you were willing to stay.
Helen is survived by her youngest son William Arthur Sampson, Niece Paula Crawley, brother Paul, 4 granddaughters and 4 grandsons, 4 great grandchildren, Goddaughter Sameika Cunningham, Godson Anthony Carvery, Aunt Jenny, Special Grandchildren Morgan and Tyshaun Crawley who she lovingly referred to as “Muk Muk” and “Tweetheart”. Special Cousins who were like her sisters Barbara, Rose, Brenda, Julie and Carol. They knew Helen in ways nobody else did, and when she was being cheeky, they could always call her out on it because that’s what sisters do. Helen loved all of her Family dearly.
Helen was predeceased by her common law Husband Arthur K. Sampson, two sons Gordon Jr and Perry, brother Frank, Grandparents Lottie and James Jarvis (Liverpool).
The Family would like to thank the Staff at the Halifax Infirmary for their care, to Helen's friends and neighbors who were always willing to lend Helen a hand when she needed it, Thank you. To those who just sat and had coffee with her in the morning, she appreciated it all.
A funeral service will be held at Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, located at 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax, NS, B3K5C9, Canada, on January 17, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
A committal service will follow at St. John's Cemetery, located at 6 Bedford Hwy, Halifax, NS, B3M 1C2, Canada, on January 17, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
