

GRANT, Hubert Garnet Sr. Age 76, After several years of battling Alzheimers, complicated by respiratory issues, Hughie passed away suddenly and peacefully at Northwood Manner in Halifax on Friday, August 29, 2014. Born in and raised in Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Garnet Grant, Sophia (Izzard) and Russell Clancy (step-father). Hughie was a prominent and well-known entrepreneur here in Halifax. He established many billiards clubs, grocery stores, and landscape business along his life’s journey. Hughie was an adamant card player and shark, friends can attest to this. Also known to give people a good run for their money at pool. He could be found many days, fishing with his buddies or having a drink at the local pub. Hughie was a football fanatic whether watching or playing the game. In his younger years he played for the Buccaneers and broke many a record, where his name was placed in the Local Sports Hall of Fame. He was a man of integrity and loyalty, which made him many a friend to everyone, regardless of their race, age or walk of life. His loving daughters survive Hughie: Lillian (Grailing) Downey and Yolande Grant. He is mourned by his beloved partner, Kim Drysdale; brother Les Grant, and sister, Valerie Bucchianico (Ontario) and the mother of his children Monica Wheaton. He will be sadly missed by his grand-children: Glessanda, Mark, Nathanial, Gabrielle, Mackenzie, Quinntell and great-grand child: Jeremiah and God-daughter: Shalyn Jones. In addition to his parents Hughie was predeceased by his only son Hughie Jr. and sister Yvonne Highgate. Visitation: Thursday 2:30 pm-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Cruikshank’s Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, where Funeral Service will be held 2 PM Friday.
