

ARMSTRONG, John Frederick Age 80, of Halifax died at home with his family on November 14, 2013. A terrific conversationalist, John spent his working life travelling Atlantic Canada as an industrial salesman – he had many friends throughout the region. John was very active in scouting, earning the honour of King Scout and serving on the Halifax Regional Council for 40 years. He was a member of the 4th Halifax Scout Troop Pipe Band and later the Halifax Rifles, with which he participated in the March of the Hundred Pipers that officially opened the Canso Causeway in 1955. John is survived by his wife, Jean, their daughter Heather (Jim) Sercombe, London ON, sons Ross (Hannah) Armstrong, Dartmouth, and Neil (Karen) Armstrong, Stillwater Lake, and eight grandchildren; Andrew, Jeffrey and Alex Sercombe; Cleo and Carmen Armstrong; and Alex, Lauren and William Armstrong. Also survived by his sister, Patricia Armstrong, Halifax, and brother Don (Mary) Armstrong, Guysborough. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 19 from 7 – 9 p.m. at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. The memorial service will be on Wednesday, November 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany United Church, Halifax. Interment will be held at a later date in Sherbrooke.
