

age 88 of Halifax passed away on November 21st at the Halifax Infirmary. Born in Halifax she was the daughter of the late John Earl and Mary Frances (O’Connell) Sears. She was a member of The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Halifax District Library Board, Halifax District School Board, Appeal Board of the Unemployment Insurance Commission, the Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative Party, the Ostomy Society of Nova Scotia and various other volunteer organizations and causes. She was a long-time member of St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church, serving on The Alter Guild and Parish Council and was Church Treasurer for 18 years. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband Reginald; daughters Joanne Prest and Susan Hubley; sisters Dorothy (Clifford Coffin) and Phyllis (Harry Pottie); brothers Harold (Mary) Sears, Earl (Lorraine) Sears, and Larry Sears.
Surviving are sister-in-law June Sears; nieces and nephews Diane, Chris, Kevin and Blair Coffin, Beverley, Greg, Heather, and Debby Pottie, David, Scott, and Linda Sears, as well as Bonita Sears.
Also surviving are brother-in-law Bob (Peggy) Prest; niece Kim and nephew Bill.
Joyce maintained a special and unique relationship with son-in-law Everett and daughter-in-law Trudy; she was Nana to Gary (Christina), Devin (deceased) and Alicia, and Great Nana to Aurora.
Cremation has taken place. Service to be held at St. Margaret of Scotland Church (3751 Robie St, Halifax) at 1:00pm on Monday November 29th. Burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In keeping with Joyce’s wishes there will be no visitation.
