After a long battle with dermatomyositis and pulmonary fibrosis, Kathy Gill, age 62, left us suddenly from an undetected heart defect on December 31, 2021. Kathy was surrounded by family until her last breath.
Although Kathy had only one biological daughter, she helped raise many children throughout her lifetime. There was never a time that her home was empty, as it was always filled with the laughter of children. Kathy had a huge heart and was always the first to help a friend. Her sense of humour could make you laugh even in the darkest of times.
Regardless of life’s circumstances, Kathy met them head on and has been described as a silently strong warrior. She taught her daughter to value the wonderful moments in life – and how to persevere in difficult times. Kathy was the embodiment of resilience.
Nothing brought more joy to Kathy than to spend time with her daughter, Stephanie. They loved to travel together and went on many adventures. A lifelong fan of Elton John, Kathy’s dream to see him perform came true in 2018 and her smile lit up the whole arena.
Kathy is survived by her loving and heartbroken daughter, Stephanie Gill; her brother, Raymond Gill; her sisters, Marcella Gill, Betty Gill, Michelle Gill, Terry Bennink, and Christina Marshall and her father, Cyril Raymond Gill. She is preceded in death by her mother Marie Agnita Gill (nee Saulnier).
She will be deeply missed by her cats and countless friends and family.
I would like to thank the wonderful team of the ICU 5.2 at the Halifax Infirmary who cared for my mother and helped me so much through this loss.
I can’t think of a stronger or more amazing woman than you Mom, and I hope to reflect all you’ve taught me. I love you and miss you more than any words could ever hope to describe.
In accordance with my mother’s wishes there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Her family welcomes the sharing of stories and photos of her life.
