

Martha Protos, nee Katsihtis, of Halifax passed away January 30th, 2015 at the QEII hospital. Born in Aghios Ioannis, Lakonia, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Athanasios and Kostadina (Lerikos) Katsihtis. Martha is survived by her husband George Protos and daughter Mary Protos, her brother Nikonas Katsihtis, sisters Georgia Spiliotopoulos and Eleni Hiou, and many nieces and nephews. Martha worked alongside her husband at the Paradise Restaurant and later at the South End Diner. She enjoyed gardening, reading and writing, and liked to have a well-dressed table that included sweets. Martha enjoyed the company of young children and the elderly, however she had a great fear of dogs. Her main loves in life were her family, ‘Princess Diana,’ the colour “ciel” (sky blue), Greece, and the Greek culture. Martha was a very kind, sensitive and spiritual person. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 3rd, 2015 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Cruikshank Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. Funeral Service will be held 2 pm wednesday at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, Rev. Peter Maropoulos officiating. Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one’s charity of choice.
