Betsy entered eternal life peacefully while surrounded by her family at the age of 91. She was predeceased by her husband Adrian (Bez) and great grandson Brenden, though is survived by her children Liz (David Hendsbee), Joe (Beth), Mike (Ollie), Greg, and Janet (Joseph Khoury), grandchildren Matthew, Gillian, Alex, Katie, Juliana and James, and nine great grandchildren. She outlived her parents Annie and Arthur Sampson, and siblings Theresa, Geri, Gerald, Frank, Carl and Cathy. Her many nieces and nephews loved her, especially Claire.
Betsy delighted in sharing stories of growing up in the Spring Garden Road area, and while she felt affected by the tumult of wartime Halifax, she enjoyed a happy childhood anchored by a loving home life and carefree days at College Street School. Indeed she was awarded a prize for never having missed a day! She and Adrian began their married life in the South End, started their family at a young age and eventually settled in downtown Dartmouth where they enjoyed family life until his untimely early death. Betsy remained steadfastly focused on the blessings of family until the moment of her death, strengthened by her belief in eternal life!
Visitation will be at Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 11, between 7 and 9pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 12 at 10:30am. Fr. Irek Bem will preside. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Betsy's family appreciates the care provided by the staff on Evans Court, Maplestone Enhanced Care Home, especially as her needs intensified near the end of her life.
