

Holland (Landry), Mary Linda – 92, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, died Wednesday September 21st, 2011 in Melville Gardens surrounded by family. Linda was born in Petit-de-Grat, Cape Breton on November 30th, 1918 to Alphonse and Mary Louise Landry. Linda was a kind soul, a wonderful mother and grandmother (Mémé as she liked to be called) and animal lover. She loved cats in particular, believing they were intelligent and social animals who could provide comfort during even the worst of times. She particularly enjoyed caring for her special cats, Bijou and Nipper. An avid baker and cook, Linda shared her passion for food with everyone around her. Not a family birthday went by that didn’t come with one of Linda’s cakes. Linda loved to be around people. She enjoyed the company and laughter that came from being with family and friends. One of her favourite pastimes was dancing. She was predeceased by her husband Harold, her brothers Eugene, Aloysius, Alderic and her sister Mildred. Linda is directly survived by her daughter Jeannette Holland Jones (Rick), her granddaughters Jennifer and Stephanie (Tim) and her great granddaughter Lillian. Visitation will be held today from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, September 24 at 1pm at St.Ignatius Church, Bedford, with Father Cosgrove officiating. A further visitation will be held September 25 at IML Funeral Home, Petit-de-Grat. Burial will take place September 26 at Star Of The Sea Cemetery, Petit-de-Grat (St. Joseph’s Parish). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Linda’s name to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
