

Health Sciences Centre, VG Site, Halifax. Born in New Brighton, England she was the only child of the late William and Mary
Gertrude(Browne) Francis. Mom lost her mother when she was two years old. Mom was granted passage out of Liverpool on the Duchess of Atholl, a British steam passenger ship to meet her father in Halifax where he had gone to work as engineer with Canadian Steamships Ltd. of Montreal. Mom was twelve when she made the wartime crossing with 1000 others who constantly prayed that the boat would not be torpedoed. The steamship safely docked at Pier 21 Mary attended Sacred Heart Convent in Halifax and graduated from St.Patrick's Girls' High School with a diploma in the commercial department in
1946. Mary worked for the CNIB and Canada Immigration prior to raising her family. Mom was a life-long member of the former St.Joseph's Parish,Russell Street and belonged to The Children of Mary,St.Agnes Parish and the Catholic
Women's League of Blessed Mother Teresa Parish. Mom was a Life Member of Mayflower Curling Club. Mom was dearly loved by all her children and grandchildren and supported by dear friends Eileen and Frank Murphy. Surviving are daughters, Ann Marie (Dale) Whitney, Oshawa, Ont.; Denise(David) Graham, New Glasgow; Heather (John) Craig, Calgary, Alta; sons,
William Francis (Linda), Calgary, Alta; Scott Joseph (Mary Ann),Timberlea; sisters-in-law,Sister George Marie SSM, Antigonish; MarieMacEachern,Sydney; Joseph (Beth) Big Pond Centre,seven grandchildren,Sarah and Hannah Whitney, Rachel, Kathleen and Scott Graham, Jacob MacPherson and Julia Ann Craig. She was predeceased by her husband, William Joseph; grandchildren, Jessica Dale Whitney and Alexander Joseph MacPherson. Visitation will be held on Friday January 27th from 4-8 pm in Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. Funeral mass will be 10am Saturday January 28th at 10am from Blessed Mother Teresa Parish, Father Boudreau officiating. Interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
